Help and FAQ

How to...

Start your own conversation

H7

First of all, you need to sign up to 9cays if you haven't already.

Then just email the people you'd like to include in the conversation, and add the email address go@9cays.com in either the To or Cc field.

To: Jim, Betty
Cc: go@9cays.com
Subject: Friday lunch - where should we go?

9cays will create a new email address for the conversation, and set up a web page to hold all the messages. We'll then email you with the conversation details, and send an invitation to each of the participants.

Contribute to a conversation

H5

Just reply to any conversation email that you receive.

To: conversation-54@9cays.com
Subject: Friday lunch - where should we go?
Message: Hey guys, let's try somewhere new - suggestions?

9cays automatically creates, for each conversation, a unique email address that looks something like conversation-54@9cays.com. When you reply to a conversation email, your reply will automatically go to this address, and 9cays will forward it on to all the other participants in the conversation and put a copy on the conversation's web page.

Add someone to a conversation

H6

Reply to any conversation email, and include the email addresses of the people you want to add in the To or Cc field.

To: conversation-54@9cays.com
Cc: Jim, Betty

9cays automatically picks up the new addresses, adds them as participants to the conversation, and sends them invitations to join in. They can catch up on all the previous messages in the conversation by looking at the conversation's web page.

Leave a conversation

At the bottom of every conversation email, you'll find a link that lets you leave the conversation. Just click it and you'll no longer receive any email relating to that conversation.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can anyone join a conversation?

Yes, as long as their email address has been invited by an existing participant.

9cays will ignore any email to a conversation's email address from someone who isn't a participant in that conversation.

Is my conversation private?

Yes, as long as the participants in the conversation keep the address of the conversation's web page secret. Anyone who has that address can read the web page.

We're working on adding password protected conversations to 9cays, for an even higher level of security.

If I want to publish a conversation, can I include a copy on my own web page?

Yes. See our instructions for using FeedDigest.

What happens to attachments in the email?

You can attach files and images (supported formats: jpeg, gif, png) to emails. These attachments are removed from the email and saved on our server. Images are displayed on the web page and other attachments will be replaced with a web-link. This feature allows emails to be sent faster and users can download the attachments when it is convenient for them to do so.

Won't spammers use 9cays?

We hate spam as much as you do, and we're determined that 9cays will not be a source of spam. We've done a lot to make 9cays difficult for spammers to abuse. If you do get spam from 9cays, please forward a copy to us at help@9cays.com and we'll do our utmost to make sure it never happens again.

I've invited somebody to join a conversation, but they've lost the invitation. How do they join in?

Give them the conversation's email address and tell them to send an email to it.

If you've been invited to join a conversation, sending a message to that conversation's email address will automatically join you up.

How much does it cost to sign up with 9cays?

While we're beta testing the service, it's free to sign up and use 9cays.

Once we have everything looking a bit more polished, and have added some more features that we're planning, we'll probably introduce paid plans.

I have several email addresses. Do I have to sign up separately with each one?

No. If you're signed in to 9cays, there's a "Manage email addresses" link near the top of the right-hand column that lets you add more than one email address to your account.

Once you've added them, your conversation list will show the conversations for all your addresses.
